When we’re preparing to go on our holidays, there are a lot of things we need to consider to ensure we have a safe and enjoyable time. But while we are making arrangements for our own trip, we must also remember that our furry friends require the same things from their Boarding Kennels.
Selecting a place for your dog to stay should not be a decision that is rushed or taken lightly- after all; we love our dogs, and only want the best for them. So, what should we be looking for on our quest to find our canine companion somewhere to take his own holiday while we enjoy ours?
- The kennel you select must state that all dogs boarding with them should be up to date on their vaccinations-the last thing you want is for your pet to contract an illness from one of the other dogs staying there.
- The Dog Boarding Kennels should be open to inspections from the public- ideally without the need to make an appointment- so you can check that the animals boarding there are getting the care they need, and that the facilities are up to scratch.
- Ensure that there is a vet close to the kennel, so that should an emergency occur, your pet will receive the attention they need as soon as possible.
- Kennels should provide accommodation that will be comfortable for the dog no matter what the weather- fans or air conditioning during the summer months are ideal, with well insulated sleeping areas and bedding that is raised from the cold ground to provide warmth during a winter stay.
- Your dog should be provided with a safe, secure indoor area in which to spend time if the weather is bad or they just want to snooze, as well as outside space so they are able to exercise and enjoy the fresh air.
- The Boarding Kennels you choose should be happy to cater for any special requirements that your dog may have- whether that be a particular diet, administration of medication or making sure your pup has his favourite chew toy in his kennel with him!
- Belonging to a governing body- for example the Association of Pet Boarding & Grooming (http://www.qldpetboarding.org.au) – will provide you with reassurance that your dog’s lodging and carers adhere to a strict code of ethics and care.
It goes without saying that staff at the Castelan Boarding Kennels should have a love of dogs and a passion for their care and wellbeing. You should be provided with contact details so that you are able to get in touch with the staff if you have any worries.
Of course, your dog should also be lodging in an environment that is comfortable and fun- after all, if you are having fun on your own holiday, Man’s Best Friend should be having a woofing great time, too!
